Pakistan supercharges internet with three new subsea cables
August 27, 2025

Pakistan is poised for a significant digital transformation as the government prepares to lay three new submarine internet cables this year, aiming to revolutionize internet connectivity, enhance digital infrastructure, and support the rollout of 5G technology.

Unveiling the ambitious project, Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the initiative would not only boost internet speed but also ensure reliability, reduce service outages, and unlock broader economic potential.

The new submarine cables are expected to significantly expand Pakistan’s bandwidth capacity.

They will reduce dependence on older, outage-prone systems such as AAE-1 and SMW-4, and position Pakistan as a stronger participant in global digital networks.
