In Nigeria, polling for the presidential and National Assembly elections has started after a week-long delay.

According to Nigerian Independent National Electoral Commission, results are expected from early next week. 

Meanwhile, several explosions were heard today in Maiduguri city before elections begin.

A contingent of more than 500 Chadian troops entered Nigeria in support to the Nigerian army in its efforts to tackle the Boko Haram militants.   

Talking to AFP, Chad army spokesman said the soldiers are part of a regional force comprising troops from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
