About one hundred and seventy people are feared to have died in two separate Mediterranean ship wrecks.

In the first incident, the Italian navy reports that a ship sank off the coast of Libya with 117 people on board.

In another incident, 53 migrants who left Morocco on a dinghy went missing after a collision in the Alboran Sea, in the western Mediterranean.
