Iran says US sanctions are deliberately targeting innocent civilians and tantamount to economic terrorism.

Talking to United Nations in New York City, foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Iran needed ballistic missiles to protect itself from US-backed foreign invaders.

He said the US is deliberately targeting innocent civilians to achieve illegitimate political objectives by imposing severe sanctions.
