Russia has warned against baseless accusations over last week's attacks on two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, saying such incidents can undermine foundations of the world economy.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov, said Russia always urges a sober appraisal of the situation and to wait for convincing evidence to appear.

A Japanese and a Norwegian oil tanker were attacked in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday for which no one has claimed responsibility.

The United States has blamed Iran for the attack but Tehran has rejected the accusation.
