Polio eradication remains national priority: Finance Minister

Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb says Pakistan’s government remains committed to institutionalizing reforms aimed at reducing revenue leakages and improving compliance.

He made these remarks during a meeting with President for Global Policy and Advocacy at the Gates Foundation, Dr Kalpana Kochhar on the sidelines of the World Bank-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington DC today.

Briefing Dr Kalpana Kochhar about the ongoing reforms within the Federal Board of Revenue, the Finance Minister highlighted that the Prime Minister is personally overseeing the government's digital transformation program, which focuses on three key areas including financial inclusion, government payments, and digital infrastructure.

He also informed Dr Kochhar about initiatives including a digital Compliance Risk Management system, AI-led production monitoring, behavioral nudges via SMS, and specialized training for young FBR officers.

Talking about polio, the Minister emphasized that polio eradication remains a national priority and requires continued systemic support.

On polio vaccine financing, Muhammad Aurangzeb underlined Pakistan's plans to leverage its strong ties with the Islamic Development Bank to secure additional support.

During the meeting, both sides also agreed on the importance of continued knowledge exchange and collaboration to strengthen their partnership.
