Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal has announced to launch 'Mawakhat for Development' initiative to remove deprivation and backwardness in the country’s most underdeveloped districts.
Addressing a workshop in Islamabad today, he highlighted that under this initiative, twenty richest districts of the country will partner with the twenty poorest districts.
He said cities such as Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad will form partnerships with backward districts in Balochistan. Under this program, the administrations of developed districts will also share their systems, expertise and experiences with the administrations of the backward districts.
The Minister for Planning described this as a pioneering project and expressed confidence that it would significantly reduce deprivation and underdevelopment in Balochistan’s backward districts.
Ahsan Iqbal emphasized that building water resilience across the country, especially in Balochistan, is a crucial pillar of our national development. He said under Uraan Pakistan, this sector is being given special importance.
He mentioned that a National Water Security Task Force has been established to identify projects by consensus aimed at preventing water scarcity. He stressed that we cannot afford negligence in this regard, noting that our enemy is working overtime to disrupt the flow of water to Pakistan. He expressed deep concern that this enemy is using water as a weapon in clear violation of all international laws.
