
Punjab government and Pakistan Railways have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for development of modern train service across the province.
The agreement was signed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi in Lahore today.
Under the agreement, Pakistan’s first fast train will run between Lahore and Rawalpindi.
The Punjab government will also introduce modern Diesel Multiple Unit trains on eight regional routes spanning approximately 1,415 kilometers.
These include the Shahdara–Narowal and Narowal–Sialkot sections, as well as routes linking Raiwind, Kasur, Pakpattan and Lodhran, and Lala Musa, Malikwal and Sargodha.
Speaking on the occasion, the Railways Minister said that the travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi will be reduced to two hours and fifteen minutes.
