PM expresses support for UN’s role in global peace, security

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stressed the need for upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, as well as the faithful implementation of UN resolutions and international treaties, for sustainable peace.

He made these remarks in a telephonic conversation with the candidate for the post of United Nations Secretary-General and Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, today.

The Prime Minister also called for enhanced international cooperation for achieving the global development agenda.

He underscored the importance attached by Pakistan to strengthening multilateralism, and expressed support for the vital role being played by the United Nations for global peace and security.

In her remarks, Rodrigues-Birkett commended Pakistan's invaluable contributions to the work of the United Nations.

She also thanked the Prime Minister for the telephone call and deeply appreciated the Prime Minister's efforts and leadership in achieving regional peace and stability.

Later, in a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast support for a stronger and more effective United Nations and the centrality of multilateralism in addressing today’s global challenges.

He said he had a productive telephone conversation with the candidate for the position of UN Secretary-General, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.

Shehbaz Sharif also appreciated her kind words, acknowledging Pakistan’s contributions to the UN and its efforts to promote regional peace and stability.
