United Nations has urged on Israel and Palestine to exercise maximum restraint to ensure ceasefire in the region.

In a statement, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has said that he is closely following the explosive situation in Gaza after an Israeli raid and bombings against Palestinians.

He said his Special Coordinator for the region, Nickolay Mladenov is working with all sides to restore calm.

Meanwhile, Egypt has called on Israel to immediately end its military action in Gaza and warned of serious and negative consequences of continuing this vicious cycle of violence.

Egyptian foreign ministry said in a statement, Cairo has been asking Israel to immediately stop all forms of military action in Gaza.
