Peace in Afghanistan to bring prosperity in region: President

President Dr Arif Alvi says peace in Afghanistan will bring prosperity in the region and open a window of business opportunities for the world to connect with Central Asian Republics.

In an exclusive interview with Khaleej Times during his two-day visit to the UAE, the President said Pakistan wants peace in Afghanistan as it will have a positive impact on the country and also on the entire region.

He said we we do not want any instability in our neighboring country and hope to see an inclusive government representing all political stakeholders.

Dr Alvi termed the US withdrawal a hasty call and said there was no military solution in Afghanistan.

He said we always tried to persuade the US into avoiding war, and back negotiations as a better solution.

The President said Pakistan has been hosting four million refugees and stressed that such a gesture must be considered as a matter of goodwill by the Afghan people.

Responding to a question, the President said Pakistan is on the right track and its future is bright.

He said the government has managed to register close to four per cent GDP growth rate in last financial year despite the pandemic.

About the Expo 2020 Dubai, the President said it is a wonderful event and all credit goes to the visionary leadership of UAE for hosting a successful show despite a challenging environment worldwide.

In an exclusive interview with the Emirates News Agency, President Dr. Arif Alvi said Gwadar Port and Jabel Ali Port in Dubai can only complement the international trade and make each other stronger.

He said his country wants to follow the example of the UAE in attracting investments.

President Arif Alvi said that relationship between Pakistan and the UAE has improved tremendously over the years. He said the foundation of our relationship based on brotherhood and common religion is very strong.

The President said Pakistan is trying to create another business domain like the UAE. We have special economic and export zones, where industrial brick and mortar investments are being encouraged. He said we also have a special technology zone authority where people can bring in and take out the capital.

He said we are improving education, taking care of the health of women and neonates and working for women empowerment with the help of the UAE.
