Presidential election to be held today

Presidential election will be held today to elect 13th President of Pakistan for next five years. Arif Alvi of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf, Aitzaz Ahsan of Pakistan Peoples Party and PML (N) backed Maulana Fazlur Rehman are vying for the seat.

Polling will begin at ten am and continue till four pm.

Briefing media men in Islamabad today, Additional Director General Election Commission Nadeem Qasim said Chief Election Commissioner will submit the results to federal government Wednesday.

He said according to the law, the federal government will announce the final results.

Qasim Nadeem said only state-run TV will be allowed to record the process and it will share the content with other media channels.

Meanwhile,a joint session of parliament will be held at Parliament House in Islamabad tomorrow in which members of National Assembly and Senate will exercise their right to vote. Voting will be held through a secret ballot.

Similarly, provincial assemblies will hold sessions tomorrow for the election.

Radio Pakistan will broadcast a marathon transmission covering Presidential election tomorrow.
