ECP to approach SC against Lahore, Balochistan High Courts' judgments on nomination forms

Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to immediately move Supreme Court of Pakistan against the decisions of Lahore High Court and Balochistan High Court regarding annulment of nomination papers and delimitation of constituencies.      

The decision was taken at a meeting of the commission chaired by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Muhammad Raza in Islamabad today (Saturday).     

Later briefing the media persons, Additional Secretary of ECP Akhtar Nazir made it clear that the general elections will be held on 25th July.

He, however, said that the returning officers have been asked not to receive nomination papers on 3rd and 4th June. He said future directions regarding receipt of nomination papers will be issued to the returning officers keeping in view the order of the apex court.    

During the meeting, the ECP also took strong notice of recent appointments and sought reply from respective governments.

It was decided that final directions will be issued by the commission on the matter after reviewing the whole matter.

The ECP made it categorically clear that no caretaker government or authority can transfer or appoint a government official without prior permission from the commission.    

Regarding the transfer of civil and police officers at the center and the provinces in the run up to the elections, the commission decided that it will issue directions on the matter in the next two to three days.
