Govt focuses on promoting economic diplomacy to strengthen the economy: FM

The Senate resumed its session this afternoon at Parliament House Islamabad with Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani in the chair.

Five bills were introduced in the Senate today (Monday).

“The Code of Criminal Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2021”, “The Pakistan Panel Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021”, “The Children (Pledging of Labour) (Amendment) Bill, 2021”, “ The Civil Servants (Amendment) Bill, 2020” and The Service Tribunals (Amendment) Bill, 2021”.

The Chair referred the bills to the Standing Committees concerned.

Minister of State Climate Change Zartaj Gul says government is taking concrete measures to deal with the problem of climate change under its green agenda.

Speaking on a motion in the Senate, she said National Electrical Vehicles policy has been passed by the cabinet and now we are working on its implementation. She said we are working on a plan to ensure that by 2030 at least 30 per cent of the vehicles used in the country are on electricity.

The Minister of State said our aim is to increase the share of renewables in power mix to 30 per cent by 2025. She said we hope to bring the share of clean energy in its electricity mix to 65 per cent by 2030.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said the government is focusing on promoting economic diplomacy to strengthen the economy.

Winding up the debate on a motion in Upper House, he said economic stability is the key to a successful foreign policy.

The Minister said under our Look Africa initiative, we achieved 7 percent growth in our export with African countries. He said under second phase of China Pakistan Economic Corridor, the country's productivity is being enhanced through transfer of technology.

He reiterated Pakistan's desire to maintain cordial relations with all of its neighbors for a long-lasting regional peace.

The Minister said the first thing on the PTI government's foreign policy is to have cordial relations with Afghanistan. He also emphasized the need for greater collaboration between the two countries in different fields in order to build a common future. He said peace is essential for promoting trade and investment between Pakistan and Afghanistan. He said we are committed to sustainable peace in Afghanistan and will continue our efforts to restore peace in that country. He said our efforts in this regard are being acknowledged by the whole world, including Afghanistan itself.

The Foreign Minister said India is being criticized by the world community due to Hindutva ideology of BJP government. Reaffirming Islamabad's determination for peace and stability in the region, he said, Pakistan desires to build good relations with India but BJP regime is the main hurdle in this way. He said Hindutva ideology has tarnished the face of secular India and now Pakistan is consistently apprising the world about Indian atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
