Scientists have developed an artificial photosynthesis method to grow food without sunlight.

They used a 2-step electro catalytic process to convert CO2, electricity and water into acetate. This acetate was consumed by food-producing organisms to grow in dark.

When combined with solar panels, the hybrid organic-inorganic system could increase conversion efficiency of sunlight into food by 18 times.
