Omicron coronavirus variant has been detected in several countries including Britain, Czeck Republic, Germany and Netherlands.

Many countries have imposed restrictions on travel from southern Africa in an effort to stop its spread.

Omicron, dubbed a "variant of concern" by the World Health Organization, is potentially more contagious than previous variants of the disease.
