In Ethiopia, death toll from the mudslides triggered by heavy rain in Gofa mountainous regions has risen to 229.

According to the Ethiopian disaster response agency, most of the victims were rescue workers who were buried in a mudslide while searching for survivors of another mudslide that had occurred the previous day.
