The United Nations has stressed the need to engage the interim Taliban government in Afghanistan, despite difficulties.

This was stated by UN Secretary-General's Deputy Special Representative and officer-in-charge of UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, Ramiz Alakbarov while speaking at the Security Council. 

Ramiz Alakbarov emphasized that it is the only way forward for the sake of Afghan people as well as for regional and international security.

Alakbarov warned that we cannot exclude the possibility of increased instability if peoples' rights are denied and if they do not see themselves in their government.
