Analysts hail NSP to endure reforms in the judicial and executive proceedings
January 22, 2022

Lt Gen Retd Asif Yasin Malik (Defense Analysts) The domestic and regional security dynamics of security states are always in flux. It is the responsibility of the leaders to devise a plausible policy that should act as a guiding principle while carving policies in multitudinous domains. The comprehensive national security policy of Pakistan will serve as a beacon of guidance in socio-economic and instances of foreign policy. The inception of this policy framework has shunned the traditional concept of security. The conundrums like population bomb, food security are added to the concept of national security. The contours of geo-politics are being driven by virtue of geo-economic interests at the international level. The trade war between US and China is a vivid clear example of this fact that the geo-economics has overwhelmed the nature of state to state interaction. The currently presented policy is quite realistic in nature as it has shifted the focus to geo-economics which was the need of the hour. Furthermore, this policy endures reforms in the judicial and executive proceedings. There are certain segments in the law and penal code that are meant to be reformed with the contemporary dynamics. The implementation phase of the Comprehensive National Security Policy will be the decisive and deterministic stage.

Lt Gen Retd Naeem Khalid Lodhi (Defense Analyst) Any issue despite its nature can be resolved by two approaches that is addressing the apparent causes or curbing the root causes. The recently presented Comprehensive National Security Policy will be addressing the root causes of the issues that the public of Pakistan has been facing for long. The economic upheaval is at the core of the socio-political chaos. Thus, the incumbent government has focused on the economic aspects that will likely culminate a major chunk of the pertinent issues in Pakistan. This is the relevance of the policy framework at the domestic level. At the international level, the regional challenges like Indian hostility and the United States' dismay on unceremonious exodus will have implicit implications for Pakistan. This policy framework has been devised while keeping these challenges in view. Furthermore, there is a dire need for institutional and prosecution reforms to ensure law and order in the society that is indispensable for economic growth and development.

Abdullah Gul (IR Expert) Pakistan is the only state in the South Asian region that is cordially and unconditionally helping the war torn Afghanistan. The imminent looming humanitarian crisis in the neighborhood will have direct implications for Pakistan as it has faced a massive refugee influx for about 40 years. The regional security jeopardy has yielded terrorism in Pakistan and the statesmen are urged to increase the military expenditure on struggling economy. The international community has been urged by Pakistan to curb the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan as the repercussions will not be confined to South Asia but the entire international community will have to face the music. The frozen funds are neither from Taliban nor Ashraf Ghani but they belong to the people of Afghanistan. If a fraction of what has been spent on the war in Afghanistan by the US is spent, the resurrection of Afghanistan will relieve the vulnerable Afghans. Pakistan, despite the economic crunch, is helping the war torn country and the international community should take notes. But in praxis rather than appreciation, Pakistan is categorized in the gray list of FATF.
