Analysts appreciate PM’s bold stance on not allowing Pakistani territory to be used for action inside Afghanistan
June 19, 2021

Ali Muhammad Khan (Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs): Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken a strong stance by saying that Pakistan will not allow any of its bases for action in Afghanistan. He also clarified that government will not take any step which is against the integrity of Pakistan. This is a principled position of Prime Minister Imran Khan for long. Imran Khan has always opposed the step to give Pakistan's military bases to foreign forces. Islamabad is always ready to endorse any step taken for regional peace. However, we cannot afford to become part of any conflict. The PTI-led government has a very skilled team to deal with any international issue. Islamabad has a clear stance that Pakistani land will not be allowed to be used against any other country. It is the responsibility of the United States and the United Nations to ensure responsible withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan. Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has rightly stated that Pakistan advocates reasonable withdrawal of international troops from the region. Pakistan has already paid a huge price for Afghan war. The transition of power in Afghanistan must be smooth and peaceful.

Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Raza Muhammad Khan (Defense Analyst): Pakistan has played a very positive role to sustain durable peace in Afghanistan. Islamabad is committed to continue facilitation for the success of intra-Afghan peace dialogue. Islamabad is highly concerned about the post-withdrawal situation in Afghanistan. It is high time that Pakistan further improves border security arrangements. We have to take elaborate measures to stop cross border movement of terrorists. The Government of Pakistan has taken a right stance by not allowing its bases to be used by international forces. Pakistan must get ready to deal with the issue of Afghan refugees after the exit of US troops from Afghanistan. The international community must cooperate with Islamabad to deal with any unfavorable situation in the future.

Rahimullah Yusufzai (IR Expert): Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken a very right and bold stance for not giving bases to the US for operations in Afghanistan. Imran Khan has always opposed giving its land to American forces for operations. We have already suffered a lot due to US war on terrorism. We want self-respect and do not want to become part of any conflict. The political dynamics of Afghanistan have adversely affected Pakistan. Islamabad advocates responsible withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan. We must get ready to deal with the post-withdrawal situation. Pakistan has always facilitated the Afghan peace process but unfortunately the Kabul government never appreciates Islamabad’s role. Pakistan can only support Afghan peace process but it is the responsibility of the Afghan government to maintain peace in their country. It is high time that Afghan government takes corrective measures to control peace spoilers instead of criticizing Pakistan for their security failures.

Dr. Khurram Iqbal (IR Expert): Indian forces have been using rape as a weapon to suppress indigenous Kashmir freedom movement. The Hindu nationalist government in India has exceeded all limits of atrocities in IIOJ&K. Indian violations of human rights continue unabated in the held valley while it goes unnoticed by the western powers for their financial and strategic interests with India. The international media has also exposed Indian brutalities and worst human rights violations as well. Indian government is trying to change the demography of Kashmir through illegal settlements.
