The interim government of Afghanistan has dissolved five key departments of the former US-backed government, including the country's Human Rights Commission, deeming them unnecessary in the face of a financial crunch.

In a statement, the Taliban government's deputy spokesman, Innamullah Samangani said Afghanistan faces a budget deficit of 501 million US dollars this financial year.

He said these departments can be reactivated in the future if needed.
