Federal cabinet approves summary to proscribe TLP

The Federal Cabinet has approved proscribing of Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan and a reference for its dissolution will be filed in the Supreme Court.

This was announced by Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed flanked with Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Dr Noor-ul-Haq Qadri at a news conference in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The Interior Minister said the summary for filing a reference in the Supreme Court for the dissolution of the TLP will be sent to the federal cabinet for approval tomorrow.

Sheikh Rashid appreciated the personnel of the law enforcement agencies and police for restoring law and order in the country.

He said police personnel laid down their lives to ensure maintenance of law and order whereas 580 police officials got injured.

The Interior Minister said the government tried its best to resolve the issue with TLP through talks,  but the intentions of the its activists were horrific as they were planning to take on the capital on 20th of this month.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Noor-ul-Haq Qadri said the government will uphold Namoos-e-Risalat  (Salallaho Alai He Wasalam, Khatimun Nabiyyeen).

He said the government has been trying its best to bring the TLP to the fold of mainstream political system.

The Religious Minister said talks between the government and the TLP were under way on the draft of the resolution in the National Assembly and the government had not backed out.

He said the government wanted to a draft a resolution to mitigate its effects on the diplomatic front.

He said that the government gave a proposal of the parliamentary committee for the daft of the resolution, but the TLP leadership was not agreeing on a unanimous draft of the resolution.

The Minister said unfortunately, TLP gave a call for the sit in, which was ethically and morally inappropriate act.
