The United Nations Security Council will hold an open meeting on Sunday to discuss the escalating tensions between Israel and Palestine.

Chinese Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Zhang Jun, in a Tweet, said China is deeply concerned about escalation of tensions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

He said the UN Security Council should act now and send a strong message.

The Chinese Representative also regretted blockade of today's scheduled meeting of the Security Council on the issue by a member.

Meanwhile, the Norwegian Mission to the United Nations in a Tweet said that Sunday's meeting has been proposed by Norway, Tunisia and China.
