Analysts urge the United Nations to act for peaceful settlement of Palestinian crisis
May 14, 2021

Mushtaq Ahmed Mehar (Former Ambassador): Unfortunately, the US is not interested in peaceful settlement of Palestinian crisis. Also, we do not see any movement by the UN as an organization. Normally, the UN passes a resolution or formulates a commission on urgent crises like Palestine, but here it is practicing criminal negligence. Actually, the US has sided with Israel in the Palestinian issue. The Islamic countries should get together and give a collective response to the challenge. Pakistan is making very effective diplomatic efforts to bring major Muslim countries like Turkey, Indonesia, Malaysia, Iran and Saudi Arabia. The talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia could have a positive impact on Middle Eastern regional order.

Dr. Khurram Iqbal (IR Expert): Unfortunately, the Jews were settled into Muslim areas forcibly by the West. There is no hope that west can play a good role in resolving this issue.  Muslim states have failed to represent the feelings of ordinary Muslims in the Palestine crisis. Most of the time lip service is being done instead of doing practical steps. This kind of vacuum is filled by non-state actors. Hamas gained more popularity in the Muslim world by responding to Israeli aggression. There is no hope of any change in US policy towards Israel as it has been protecting and patronizing Tel Aviv for a long time.
