Prime Minister Imran Khan has stressed the need for coordinated efforts between federation and provinces to accelerate mineral development in the country.

Presiding over a meeting regarding mineral development framework in Islamabad, he said being rich with huge potential, the minerals’ sector offers good returns for investment.

The Prime Minister said minerals’ sector can also contribute to overall economic growth of the country.

He directed that goals and targets for the mineral development framework be completed within stipulated timelines.

The meeting was informed that presently the minerals’ sector contributes less than one per cent to the GDP and implementation of the strategic plan would enhance share of minerals to ten per cent over the next 15 years.

The plan consists of harmonizing federal and provincial efforts, technical outreach, database development, fiscal incentives, training indigenous human resource and legal framework.
