Analysts urge international community to play its role in resolving Kashmir dispute
May 12, 2022

Perspective

Abdullah Gul (Defense Analyst):

Today's session in National Assembly regarding Kashmir issue is very important. The assembly unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Indian attempt to change the demography in the IIOJ&K in the name of delimitation process. The foreign minister was very clear that it is another Indian attempt to alter the electoral strength in Muslim majority Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. After the unlawful, unilateral and controversial move on 5th of August 2019 of abrogating article 370 and 35-A, the current Indian regime is once again trying to settle Hindus in Muslim majority area in Occupied Kashmir. Narendra Modi got the idea of changing demography from the Israeli Prime Minister who did the same in Palestine. The delimitation process will affect the voters list in the valley. Once India achieves its targets in IIOJ&K, it will go back to United Nations to express its readiness to hold plebiscite in the valley. Pakistan should write to United Nations and world capitals regarding heinous designs of India in advance. Morally, Pakistan has to stand with Kashmiris as Kashmir is our integral part. Kashmiris within IIOJ&K and across the globe have been striving to get the fundamental right to self-determination. The Kashmiri diaspora around the world is keeping the issue alive. The international media and social media activists are keeping the world updated on human rights violations committed by Indian forces on innocent people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. However, it is also a fact that the world is adopting double standards. Like in the recent Russia-Ukraine conflict, the world's reaction is different and regarding the situation in Kashmir, Palestine, Syria and other issues the international community has a different approach.

Nuqta-e-Nazar

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert):

From day one, Pakistan has a clear stance on the Kashmir issue that the Kashmir issue must be resolved in accordance with UN resolutions. Pakistan is continuing its moral, diplomatic and political support to the Kashmir cause. The National Assembly has passed a unanimous resolution condemning the illegal and unilateral Indian efforts to change the demography of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan wants an end to the BJP's controversial policies in IIOJ&K inspired by Hindutva ideology. Indian regime is focusing to convert Muslim majority areas in the valley to Hindu majority areas. It is unfortunate that the world organizations and United Nations are not playing the role to resolve the Kashmir dispute as was expected. It is the time that OIC must have to play a pro-active role to develop a consensus to ensure the smooth implementation of UN resolutions as per which the Kashmiris must be given the right to self-determination. The world has to keep its double standards and national interests aside and make serious efforts to end the sufferings of Kashmiri people.

Hamayun Iqbal Shami (Chairman, Pakistan Economic Forum):

Every country is pursuing its national interests. Pakistani people have affiliations with the Kashmiris people but it has nothing to do with the United States and the European countries. These countries always prioritize their trade and national interests. India is a big market and world is hesitant to criticize Indian policies openly. However, the grave human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir have come under discussion in European parliament and parliaments of many other civilized countries. The debates on human rights violations in IIOJ&K are one aspect but the foremost priority of every country is their economy, and India is an ideal trade market. So, Pakistan should have to focus on strengthening its economy so that its concerns can be addressed by the world as well.
