In Bangladesh, thousands of supporters of the main opposition party have staged protests and taken out rallies across the country, demanding Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's resignation.

The protesters are also demanding the formation of a caretaker government to conduct general elections.

People from all walks of life joined the demonstrations to protest against rising food prices. The Bangladeshi taka has depreciated by up to 25 percent, driving up the cost of food imports and making life harder for the country's poorest citizens.
