Analyst hails Govt’s decision to import three million metric tons of wheat
May 10, 2022

Hamayun Iqbal Shami (Chairman, Pakistan Economic Forum) It is a good decision of the government to import  three million metric tons of wheat. There should be checks and balances on the borders in order to prevent smuggling. Another good initiative of the government is to ban the export of sugar as it will result in smooth availability of sugar within the country. The government must also ensure the implementation of the track and trace system of mills to ascertain the production volume of the commodity. But the need of the time is to ensure strict actions against the sugar hoarders and profiteers. Moreover, strict action must be taken in case sugar is being sold at a price higher than that fixed by the government.

Abdullah Gul (Defense Analyst)  China-Pakistan relations are getting stronger and stronger with every passing day.  The two countries are like two bodies and one soul and the cooperation between the two has only strengthened over the years. However, some elements have been trying to create misunderstandings between both the countries through international conspiracies. Moreover, some anti-CPEC elements have been targeting the game changer project through terrorist activities in order to sabotage the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. There is no doubt that ensuring foolproof security for CPEC projects and overall environment is the utmost priority of Pakistan. China has publicly affirmed its confidence in Pakistan’s capacity to handle security threats to bilateral infrastructure projects. Both the countries are cooperating with each other to ensure strict security arrangements and timely completion of all the development projects under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

Brig (Retd) Syed Ghazanfar Ali (Defense Analyst) Every government in Pakistan gives top most importance to its relations with all strategic partner China. At the time, when no country was willing to invest in Pakistan, China was the only country that heavily invested in our country through the China Pakistan Economic Corridor project. This mega project supported Pakistan to a great extent to stabilize the economy and overcome energy shortages. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is believed to bring an economic revolution in the country. The government in Pakistan needs to take certain measures to ensure the safety and security of Chinese professionals working on development projects under CPEC. I am hopeful that Pakistan would leave no stone unturned to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals and bring to justice the elements involved in terror attacks on Chinese professionals. Some elements wanted to harm Pak-China friendship and China Pakistan Economic Corridor project, but they would not succeed in their designs as both the countries enjoyed deep friendship and were strongly committed to further strengthen the all-weather friendship.
