Analysts emphasize importance of following true teachings of Islam to avoid Sialkot like incidents
December 07, 2021

Dr. Dost Muhammad (Religious Scholar): The entire nation is in a state of sorrow and grief over the tragic incident in Sialkot where a Sri Lankan national was tortured to death on accusations of blasphemy. Whatever happened there is totally against the teachings of Islam. The Pakistani nation is very loving and affectionate. This incident is highly condemnable. The culprits involved in such incidents are ignorant of true teachings of Islam. But people like Malik Adnan are also part of our society who tried their utmost to save the Sri Lankan manager from the mob. I wish more people like Malik Adnan are born in the country. We are proud of Malik Adnan as he physically shielded Priyantha at the risk of his own life. The mob also beat Malik Adnan as he tried to save Priyantha from the rabid group. The government needs to devise a mechanism to avoid recurrence of such events.

Dr. Masoom Yasinzai (Rector, International Islamic University): Islam is a religion of peace, harmony and respect for other religions. At present, we are living in the age of globalization and communities have people of diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. Islam is a complete way of life which prohibits intervening in the beliefs and practices of other religions and seeks to preserve the customs, honour, and property of every individual, irrespective of his or her religion or faith. Our religion maintains a peaceful balance between the followers of one religion and the other. If the teachings of Islam are truly followed, elements of conflict, hatred, and mistrust will reduce and peace, harmony and coexistence will develop in multi-religious and multicultural societies. It is the responsibility of the state to promote teachings of Islam at grassroots level to make our children aware of true teachings of Islam. Malik Adnan while following the teachings of Islam tried his best to save the non-Muslim manager. This is a true example of the teachings of Islam.

Abdullah Gul (Defense Analyst): The world is acknowledging the role of Pakistan for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. The peaceful and stable Afghanistan is not only in the best interest of Pakistan but also for the entire region. Pakistan is a symbol of peace and has been urging the world powers time and again to make collective efforts to help Afghanistan. After the withdrawal of NATO forces from the war-torn country, once again it is Pakistan trying to convince the international community to support the Afghan people in order to avert any humanitarian crisis. Unfortunately, the world is prioritizing its agendas, policies and national interests and not realizing the sensitivity of the situation in Afghanistan. At this point of time, Pakistan despite its limited resources is providing humanitarian assistance and food to Afghan brethren. The need of the hour is that other regional stakeholders and the civilized world also come forward and provide Afghan people with the assistance needed to come out of this difficult time. Pakistan has a clear stance that there is a need to engage with the Taliban government in Kabul to avert a potential humanitarian disaster. Otherwise, the country could be heading towards collapse and will become a hub of militant organizations again.

Dr. Zahid Anwar Khan (IR Expert): As winter approaches, Afghans are increasingly worried about food supply. Pakistan is urging the world to support the Afghan government to address the humanitarian crises. Ways and means must be found to address the liquidity issue and enable banking channels to help Afghanistan sustain its immediate economic burden and challenges. The regional stakeholders must collaborate to support the Afghan people. The civilized world must also urge the United States to release the frozen assets of the Afghan government in order to prevent the economic crisis in Afghanistan. The country's economic situation is worsening by a high inflation rate, increasing unemployment and growing poverty. The United Nations has also warned the world regarding the gradually worsening situation in Afghanistan.
