President, PM express sorrow over death of Ashraf Sehrai in Indian detention

President Arif Alvi has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Hurriyat leader Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai in the Indian detention.

In a statement today (Tuesday), the President paid rich tributes to the role played by him in the Kashmiri struggle for right to self-determination.  He said Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai struggle against Indian state terrorism and oppressive tactics will always be remembered.

President Arif Alvi said that India cannot suppress the Kashmir struggle by incarcerating the Hurriyat leadership.

The President urged the United Nations and international community to take notice of blatant human rights violations in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said the world must fulfill its promises made with the Kashmiri people.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed deep sorrow over demise over senior All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir Chairman Ashraf Sehrai.

In a tweet he said deeply saddened by demise of Kashmiri leader Ashraf Sehrai in illegal Indian custody.

Prime Minister further said Indian operation of Kashmir is a blot on international community's collective conscience.

He said we will continue to support Kashmiris' just struggle for right to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Councils' resolutions.

Meanwhile Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressing his deep grief and sorrow said Ashraf Sehrai made a significant contribution to the Kashmiris' struggle and suffered lifelong persecution at the hands of India.

In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior APHC leader and Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai has been laid to rest in tight military siege in his ancestral village Tekipora in Lolab area of Kupwara.

The occupation authorities had put strict restrictions on the movement of the people and the whole area was cordoned off.
