In the Indian stated of Nagaland, 13 civilians were killed when security forces opened fire on a truck carrying laborers and later shot at a crowd that had gathered to protest the attack.

A local police officer said the situation in the entire Mon district is very tense where the incident took place.

Indian army in a statement said the incident took place during an operation against insurgents in the area on the basis of a credible intelligence.

It said one member of the security forces was also killed during the clash with protesters.
