Modi Govt using social media curbs to suppress protests against policies: The Guardian
March 05, 2021

Prominent British daily The Guardian has criticized the Modi led BJP government in India for using social media curbs to suppress protests against its policies.

In an article, the paper writes that Indian government's continuous crackdown on dissent is aimed at distracting the attention of people from looming crisis of poverty, unemployment and alarming state of environment.

The paper slams the Indian government's internet shutdown in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and the treatment being meted out to human rights activists who are compelled to delete their own social media accounts to protect themselves.

It mentions the latest regulations by Indian government requiring social media companies to assist Indian law enforcement in an attempt to solidify state surveillance of social media.
