Foreign Office spokesperson Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri says Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute and it needs to be resolved as per UN Security Council's resolutions, which clearly call for a plebiscite under UN auspices.

Responding to a question at his weekly-news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, he said welfare of Kashmiris and protection of their lives are important to Pakistan and it will take measures in the best interest of the people of Kashmir.

He said recent contact between the Director Generals of Military Operations of Pakistan and India should be viewed in this backdrop.

The spokesperson said Pakistan has consistently maintained that 2003 ceasefire understanding needs to be implemented in letter and spirit.

Answering another question, he made it clear that there is no change in Pakistan's position on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said resolution of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir is imperative for regional peace and stability.

Replying to a question, the spokesperson said it has always been Pakistan's policy to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation with Iran.

He said Iran has accepted Pakistan's proposal of setting up joint border markets to promote economic activity and people to people contact between the two countries.

To another question, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhri said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor will not only transform the lives of the people of Pakistan, but also the entire region through connectivity.
