Analysts hail commitment of Prime Minister to eradicate corruption from society
March 04, 2021

Syed Fakhar Imam (Federal Minister): PTI could not get the required number of votes for its candidate Abdul Hafeez Sheikh due to the money offered to members of parliament. It is also understood that some members of the party have violated the party rules and sold their votes. It is not a good development for democracy in the country. Prime Minister has decided to get the vote of confidence from National Assembly.

Ali Nawaz Awan (Leader, PTI): I am proud of my leadership and I am confident that Prime Minister Imran Khan will definitely get Vote of Confidence from the national assembly. PM Imran Khan is doing politics on high moral ground since outset. His only aim is to make the country developed and prosperous. We have witnessed yesterday's activity of the opposition parties in Senate elections. Large sums of money were at stake to buy the loyalties of the parliamentarians. Two worst rivals in the history of Pakistani politics, i.e. PML-N and PPP, became united against the ruling party just for the sake of their personal interests. PM in his address to the nations has requested people to stand for the right. PTI has presented the leaked video of Ali Haider Gillani as evidence in election commission who was seen buying votes from parliamentarians. The video revealed offers of hundreds of millions of rupees being made to PTI lawmakers ahead of Senate elections by the son of Yousaf Raza Gillani and Provincial Minister of Sindh Nasir Hussain Shah. PM Imran Khan has been struggling for over two decades for the betterment of the people and has sacrificed everything in this regard.

Mirza Ikhtiyar Baig (Economist): Regional blocks like ECO, SAARC and others are of vital importance as regional issues could be discussed through such forums. Initially, Pakistan, Turkey and Iran were the members of ECO, but over time other regional countries also became the members of this important organization. Prime Minister Imran Khan in his remarks at 14th ECO Summit shared the success story of Pakistan in countering COVID-19 and revival of economic activities. Trade with Afghanistan was also discussed. As Afghanistan is a landlocked country, Pakistan is providing it with sea access for trade. The border security arrangements, monitoring and other measures taken by FBR have resulted in significant reduction in smuggling. Prime Minister Imran Khan also talked about the global issues. Climate Change is on top of the global issues and unfortunately Pakistan is among the countries expected to be severely affected by it. However, Pakistan is among a few countries where carbon omissions by industrialization are within the international standards. Moreover, Pakistan is also among the countries that have bounced back from the impacts of COVID-19. Islamabad geared up its exports and put the economic activities on the right track. We must expect GDP growth of our country to 2% till June this year which will be a milestone keeping in view the current global situation.
