The United Nations will launch a fresh appeal for another 800 million dollars on Tuesday for flood relief and rehabilitation activities in Pakistan.

This was informed at a meeting between a six-member delegation led by Deputy Executive Director of World Food Program, Ramiro Lopes da Silva and Sindh government officials, including Provincial Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, Chief Secretary Dr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput and others in Karachi.

The WFP Deputy Executive Director said the fresh appeal is being launched as the initial 160 million dollar appeal was insufficient to meet the needs of flood victims.

The meeting discussed the latest statistics on food security and nutrition in Sindh.

Chief Secretary Sindh said the flood has caused a lot of damage to crops in twenty three districts of the province.

He said Sindh has been exporting rice, but this year due to rain and floods, the rice crop in the province was badly affected and will not be sufficient even for domestic need.

The WFP delegation assured to provide all possible assistance to help the flood victims in this difficult time.
