At least 174 people have been killed and dozens injured in a riot at a football stadium in east Java.

According to police official, the violence broke out at the stadium during a game between Arema and Persebaya Surabaya.

Arema were defeated 3-2 at home by their rivals Persebaya, a result which prompted a large amount of their supporters to storm the pitch at full-time.

Police responded using tear gas inside the Stadium.
