Radio
Pakistan has the biggest sound library containing a wide variety
of more than twenty-two thousand tapes which not only preserve
the valued spoken word items but thousands of individual recordings
of music (Ghazal and Geet numbering 4000), qawwali and Naat,
light music, folk songs, theatre songs, instrumental music
as well as classical music both vocal and instrumental. These
pieces of music sung by singers like Noor Jahan, Iqbal Bano,
Fareeda Khanum, Mukhtar Begum, Nazeer Begum, Naseem Begum,
Roona Laila, Zahida Parveen, Malka Pukhraj, Mehdi Hassan,
Saleem Raza, Ghulam Ali, Amanat Ali Khan, Nusrat Fateh Ali
Khan, Ustaad Barkat Ali Khan, M. Kalim, Habib Wali Muhammad,
S.B. John, Ghulam Abbas, Ijaz Hussain Hazaravi and many others
are not available at one place any where else. Besides, this
sound library of radio Pakistan contains recordings of the
Holy Quran in the voices of famous Qaris, Tafseer-ul-Quran
(interpretation) by world renowned religious scholars both
in Urdu and Kashmiri. Hundreds of Qawwalis by famous performers
of the level of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan also remain preserved.
The musical rendering of Pakistan's national poet Iqbal's
poems can also be found in this library in the voice of Pakistan
melody queen Noor Jahan with the Arabic version in the version
of Um-e-Kulsoom of Egypt.
