President Dr. Arif Alvi, resolution of conflicts for peace in region ,Live Seminar

 

President Arif Alvi has stressed the need for resolution of conflicts for peace and stability in the region and the world at large. Addressing a seminar on Regional Peace and Development in Islamabad on Wednesday, he said there are several UN Security Council resolutions promising right of self-determination to the Kashmiri people.  He said Pakistan and the Kashmiri people had hopes from the United Nations that these will be implemented.

 

The nations should rise above their vested interests and work collectively for the humanity to cope with the challenges including that of the global warming. President Arif Alvi said Pakistan has overcome terrorism and the country learnt from its experiences.  On the Indian Supreme Court's judgment in Babri Mosque, the President said there is frustration amongst the Muslims as well as other minorities in India.

The sufferings of the people of Kashmir valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region continue unabated as restrictions and communications blockade. The occupation authorities had imposed restrictions in Srinagar and other areas to forestall the demonstrations. The authorities disallowed the people from offering Juma prayers at Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid, Dargah Hazratbal, Dastgir Sahib and Charar-e-Sharif and many other major mosques or shrines in the Kashmir valley since 5th August.

Syed Ali Gilani also appreciated the way PM Imran Khan spoke at the United Nations General Assembly in favour of the Kashmiri people and against the Indian decision to illegally change the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. He pointed out that India’s attempt to force this illegal decision on the people has seen a widespread curfew in the region.

 

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reiterated that Pakistan will continue to extend legal, moral and diplomatic support to the oppressed people of Kashmir. Qureshi said Prime Minister Modi’s BJP-led Indian government has besieged the Kashmiri people for the past hundred days. He said innocent Kashmiri children and women are being subjected to oppression by the Indian forces.
