Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani says the government would give relief to the poor segments of the society in the new budget. In an interview with a private TV channel he said efforts are being made to control oil and food prices. He hoped that the energy crisis would ease by August and appealed to the people to help implement the policy to save energy. Referring to the defence budget, Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani stressed the need to keep the conventional structure of war strong and said it can not be lowered beyond a certain point. However, the defence budget is being channalized and ultimately it would be rooted through the Parliament. The Prime Minister emphasized that political stability and peace are essential for sustained economic growth. He said Pakistan is fighting war on terror in its own interest and not for any other country. He rejected the impression that Pakistan was towing a US policy. He strongly condemned the recent missile attack on a village in Bajour Agency in which many innocent lives were lost. To a question the Prime Minister said the government has already given instructions to find the missing persons. He stressed the need for provincial autonomy and said the government is sincerely committed to abolish the concurrent list.
