According to reports‚ he was sitting at a barber's shop when 2 assailants on a motorcycle fired 6 bullets on Rehmatullah Abid. Consequently‚ he died on the spot.
Federal and Balochistan governments have taken notice of the incident.President Asif Ali Zardari has condemned the murder of Rahmatullah Abid. He condoled with the bereaved family.
Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani has sought report from the Deputy Commissioner by tomorrow.
He also announced 1 million rupees for the heirs of the deceased journalist.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has also condemned the killing of journalist Rahmatullah Abid. Others who condemned the incident include Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif‚ Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Bar Council.
In an interview with Radio Pakistan‚ President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Pervez Shaukat said situation in Balochistan is very tense and difficult for the journalists.
He said they had already demanded of the Governor and Chief Minister of the province to provide security to our colleagues. However‚ he said no practical step has so far been taken in this regard.
PFUJ President demanded that killers of journalist Rahmatullah Abid be arrested forthwith.
