State media said troops the killed many rebels in Hajar al-Aswad locality on the suburbs of Damascus.
Opposition activists said bodies of more than twenty people have been recovered in the area.
In Aleppo‚ government forces bombarded several central areas surrounding the Old City.
Meanwhile‚ Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met with visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi‚ who arrived in Damascus on Wednesday.
Speaking after his arrival in Damascus‚ Salehi said solution to the Syrian crisis should emanate from the Syrians themselves.
However‚ he urged the need for participation and coordination of all international and regional institutes and regional countries for the purpose.
