In his opening remarks FAO representative in Pakistan Dr. Kevin Gallagher said land available for production has been decreasing and strenuous efforts are needed to preserve it.
Director NARC Dr. Ashiq Mohammad‚ in his presentation said some main dangers of pesticides are contamination of food chain and aquatic systems‚ loss of biodiversity and development of pest resistance.
Dr. Ali Abbas Qazilbash of United Nations Industrial Development Organization said in Pakistan pesticide use is rampant not only in cash crops like cotton but also in fruits and vegetables.
