Death anniversary of renowned poet Akhtar Shirani was observed on Sunday (September 9)

Death anniversary of renowned romantic poet‚ Akhtar Shirani was observed in the country on Sunday (September 9).

Real name of Akhtar Shirani was Muhammad Daud Shirani. He was born in 1905 in Tank. His father was also a renowned researcher and professor who spent the whole of his life in Lahore.

Akhtar Shirani gave new touch to romantic poetry and his poetry is widely read in Pakistan and India.

He was considered to be uncrowned prince of romantic poetry.

The most read topic of Akhtar's poetry was "Aurat". Akhtar was popular lyrics writer and his books of lyrics are "Subah-e-Bahar"‚ "Aakhtaristan"‚ "Lala-e-Tayoor"‚ "Naghma-e-Haram" and "Phoolon ke Geet".

He died in Lahore on September 09‚ in 1948 at the age of 43.
