    Independence Day 2012
    Radio Pakistan aired special programmes to celebrate the Independence Day with enthusiasm and fervor on 14th of August ‚ 2012 (Tuesday)
    The nation celebrated Independence Day on Tuesday with a pledge to work with zeal for a strong and prosperous Pakistan.

    The day dawned with thirty-one gun salute in the federal capital and twenty-one gun salute at the provincial capitals.

     

    Special prayers were offered after Fajr prayers for the prosperity‚ integrity and solidarity of the country and unity of the Muslim Ummah.


    It was a public holiday throughout the country.

    The main event of the day was the flag hoisting ceremony at Jinnah Convention Center in Islamabad‚ where Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf was the chief guest.

    Sirens were played at 8:58 am and all moving traffic on road‚ rail and sea came to a halt for one minute. It was followed by flag hoisting by the Prime Minister and playing of the national anthem. The Prime Minister addressed the nation on the occasion.


    A smartly-dressed contingent of Pakistan Naval Academy Manora took over the charge of guard duty at a change of guard ceremony at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi on Tuesday morning.


    A candle light vigil was held at Wahga border.



    Radio Pakistan aired special programmes to celebrate the Independence Day with enthusiasm and fervor.

    Extracts from the speeches of Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and special messages of the President and the Prime Minister were broadcast in the programme "Subh-o-Bakhair."


    A special feature titled "Roshan Subh-e-Azadi" was aired at 7:30 am. All PBC stations gave live coverage to the change of guard ceremony at Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi.


    The Prime Minister performed the flag hosting ceremony at the Jinnah Convention Centre Islamabad. The ceremony was broadcast live from the Jinnah Convention Centre along with "Eye Witness Account" on National Network.


    PBC covered all the functions in connection with Independence Day celebrations. A special feature titled "Ay Watan Tu Salamat Rahay" and discussion programme‚ "Tehreek-i-Pakistan Say Tameer-i-Pakistan Tak" were also part of the Independence Day programmes.


    Radio reports on Independence Day celeberations were put on air the same Day. Special reports‚ national songs‚ special features‚ interviews‚ impressions‚ as well as children‚ women‚ youth and student shows were the hallmark of the special programmes.
