The US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta says Washington has the military capacity to defeat any Iranian attempt to shut down sea commerce in the Gulf region.
Speaking at a news conference in Washington‚ he said the United States is fully prepared for all contingencies in the Gulf.
The US Defence Secretary warning came amid rising tension in the region over Iran's nuclear program and its threats to close the Strait of Hormuz unless the international community revokes sanctions on Iranian oil shipments.
