A two day General Assembly of Pakistan's Private FM Radio Stations concluded in Islamabad today with the decision to establish 'Pakistan Association of Independent Radio Stations' to focus on development of the sector along professional lines.
The Assembly‚ representing about 90 private radio stations‚ reviewed challenges faced by private radio during the last ten year and considered ways and means to address future challenges and exploit opportunities.

Addressing the participants‚ Director-General Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation Murtaza Solangi invited alliance of private stations to join hands with Radio Pakistan in formulating a joint strategy to serve listeners in a better manner in the period leading to elections and thereafter.

He held out an assurance to them that Radio Pakistan would provide every possible cooperation to them in discharging their democratic responsibilities towards listeners.

The Director-General said there is already a precedent when Radio Pakistan and the private radio sector cooperated during coverage of by-elections in Rawalpindi.

Radio Pakistan also joined hand with private radios during natural disasters of floods and rains and operation in Malakand and Swat.

He proposed that Radio Pakistan and private stations can form a joint panel to offer opportunity to candidates to present their programme and manifesto to the electorate.
