Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Saturday visited Radio Pakistan's FM-101 station in Sialkot.



Director-General Radio Pakistan Murtaza Solangi was also present on the occasion.



The Minister said FM-93 Sialkot station of Radio Pakistan would start formal transmission by the 23rd of March this year.



She also gave details of different development schemes initiated for the people of Sialkot.

 

 

The Minister also participated in the live programme and responded to question by listeners. She said the government would bring about a change for the betterment of the country with the cooperation of all segments of the society.

 

She pointed out that Pakistan was passing through a very difficult phase where war on terrorism is going on‚ over thirtysix thousand people have lost their lives and foreign investment is not forthcoming due to security situation.

 

 

She said no other country in the world has witnessed the kind of challenges that Pakistan is facing. The country witnessed floods twice a year and managed two point five million IDPs.

 

The Minister acknowledged that there were problems like corruption but such issues can be overcome through strengthening of the institutions. It is also for the electorate to send right kind of people to assemblies who could safeguard their rights.

 

Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said the Government was working on projects like import of gas and building more water reservoirs to help overcome shortages of gas and electricity.

 

 

She said gas and power crisis has also affected the industry of Sialkot and said she was in close contact with the business community to help resolve their problems.

 

 

She also expressed the confidence that establishment of a new Radio Station in Sialkot would not only help highlight problems and prospects of the region but also afford an opportunity to writers‚ intellectuals and poets to disseminate their views and works.
