The Minister said to this end, the Government has already carried out important amendments in Seed Act of 1976 abd the Plant Breeders' Right Bill is under legislation. He said the present Government has undertaken various initiatives to facilitate farmers both through budgetary proposals and under Prime Minister's package for farmers. There has been significant reduction in prices of Urea and DAP, Sales Tax exemption on pesticides and enhancement of agriculture credit to 700 billion rupees for this year.

CAREC offers Pakistan avenues for deeper economic links

Pakistan recently hosted the 15th meeting of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (Carec), a body working for the collective benefit of the region by promoting economic cooperation. Pakistan is increasingly looking at Central Asian states in an effort to forge trade links and give a fillip to its dwindling exports. However, so far, it has not been able to tap the full trade potential because of lack of infrastructure for connecting the South and Central Asia regions.

First CPEC-specific shipment to arrive in mid-November
The first shipment under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will enter Pakistan in November through the Sost border in Gilgit-Baltistan, which is due to close this year.

Both China and Pakistan’s governments have finalised arrangements to formally kick off trade activity under the umbrella of CPEC, starting specific import of goods through the new route under the $45-billion project.

China's Shanghai Electric to buy $1.77bn stake in K-Electric

The Abraaj Group has announced that an Abraaj-controlled company, KES Power, has entered into a definitive agreement to divest its 66.4% shareholding in K-Electric to the Shanghai Electric Power Company Limited (SEP) for a consideration of $1.77 billion.“Upon completion, this will be one of the largest private sector transactions in Pakistan,” stated the press release issued by The Abraaj Group.
