German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said her country wants to develop ties with India and it should not be at the cost of its trans-Atlantic relationship.

This was stated by the Chancellor Merkel after meeting the visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Berlin on Tuesday.

She said relations with India are of huge importance and in no way directed against any other relationship particularly against the trans-Atlantic ties, which have historically been very important for us and will remain so in future.
