The 6th convocation of Islamia University‚ Bahawalpur will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) at university’s auditorium at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus.

This was stated by Vice Chancellor‚ Islamia University‚ Bahawalpur Prof Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar in an exclusive interview with our Radio Pakistan‚ Bahawalpur Representative Sajjad Parvez.

The Vice Chancellor said that Punjab Governor and Chancellor of the university‚ Ch. Muhammad Sarwar will be the chief guest of the convocation.

He said that during the last thirty five years only five convocations were held while in his tenure of last three years this will be second convocation.

While giving the details of the convocation‚ Prof Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar said the 3384 graduates of session 2009 will be awarded degrees including forty six PhD‚ and 143 M.Phil students.

He further stated that the students will be honored with eighty two gold medals and eighty one Silver medals keeping in view of their distinction in different disciplines.

He said the university will also award honorary degree of doctorate to renowned broadcaster Raza Ali Abidi of BBC in recognition of his meritorious services rendered in the field of broadcasting and promotion of national language Urdu at the international level.

While earlier‚ the university also awarded the honorary degree of doctorate to Saudi Ambassador Ibrahim Bin Abdul Ghadir keeping in view of his services for strengthening the brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia in the last convocation.

He expressed the hope that the next convocation will be held in March to streamline the timely awarding of the degrees to the graduates of the university at the time of their passing out.

While highlighting the performance of IUB‚ the Vice Chancellor said that university is not only continuing the culture of research and development but has also achieved many milestone by holding international conference on date palm and mango and first ever international camel conference in the history of the Southern Punjab which will be helpful for the promotion of rich culture and heritage of Cholistan and South Asia.
